wholesome

This is my first week back to work after taking the month of July off.  I'll admit I was a bit anxious returning to the grind after having a month off.  I really enjoyed not working and I wish it was permanent.  But as reality has it, this is my job for now and it all came rushing into full action yesterday.  Whoa.  It was the most insane day at the office.

My morning began at 4:50 a.m. with the annoying chime from my iphone alarm.  I seriously get nightmares over the alarm sound as if it is some evil thing to have to get up by a certain hour and be a productive member of society.  I don't know, it totally freaks me out.  I woke up with a migraine, probably from nerves and anxiety of what Monday would have to offer.  I rush to get ready, figure out what to wear (always a disaster when I have to decide on the spot), finish packing, make sure I have enough shoes in the event I get stranded in Portland for more than my usual 3 days, change the dogs water, feed the cats, give Milo (cat) water from the faucet, do a quick pick-up of the house, water the plants, load the car, run back in for a few missing items like my phone and then jump in the car and tell Ron to put the pedal to the metal.

We arrive at the airport, I jump out, Ron jumps out and unloads my HUGE bag and little work suitcase.  I kiss the dogs who are so sleepy they wish I would just quit harassing them and just go.  I check-in with my buddies at the Southwest ticket counter who always get me check-in before I even get in line, do the whole security rigmarole, which in Spokane is totally insane.  They normally have the detectors set so high that by the time you actually get through the process your are just sporting your panties.  There must be a large amount of people traveling through Spokane that look like they might blow up the plane or they have absolutely no action and try to torture people by humoring themselves.  I dont know...

I get to Portland, take a cab because my ride (lawyer) is in Court and is running late (as usual).  I almost die on the way due to the crazy driver, which in some ways I was hoping he would crash so that I didn't have to face the office.  He didn't kill me.  He made what is usually a 45 min drive to the office a 15 min drive, so I arrived nice and early to begin my day.  I arrived to 22 voicemails, 2 very large stacks of mail and shit all over my desk.  People's empty pop cans, paper rubbish, faxes, files, you name it, it was on my desk.  Instant bad mood.   I threw my tantrum and lectured the 5 other lawyers in the office about using MY stuff and MY space.  They promised to never do it again (yea right).

It was the first Monday of the month so we had to pick-up our new court-appointed clients for the month.  There is a reason these folks are in the predicaments they are in.  Quite frankly a lot of them are stupid.  And through their stupidity, I am find comic relief, along with a whole lotta work.  Sometimes I need to pinch myself to see if I am in the real world, to double check that this person is sitting in front of me telling me the story that they are.  Is this for real?  You actually thought through this act, actually carried it out and are now pissed off at me that you got caught.  Hmmm.  Ok.  Maybe y'all need to utilize some of that awesome brain power towards getting a job, keeping the job and being an active part of the community, in a good way of course.  Just a thought.

Finally the nightmare ended and I drove my buggy straight to Whole Foods for dinner.  Wonderful place.  The store itself is very peaceful and calming...very wholesome.  I took my dinner to my hotel and enjoyed every last bit of it.
