We arrived home late last week from a 3 week long visit to Maui. We of course had a wonderful time and returned fully rested. I am pretty sure it is a lot easier getting ready to go on vacation then it is coming home. The piles of mail, laundry, house work, yard work, work work and well, reality is so overwhelming that it has taken me nearly a week to return to normal. Reality stinks!
We stayed at our
condo (My Cheap Maui Condo) to check up on it and to handle a few handyman items. My favorite part of visiting the condo the notes left in the guest book--their kind words and sincere appreciation for the work we have done to the place just boggles my mind each year. I love each and every one of them!
This year we decided to keep things low key and non-touristy. So, instead of renting a car we rented bicycles, walked and rode the bus. We were very local, which was nice change of pace. We experienced and saw so much more of our local community by being forced to walk and ride through neighborhoods to get places, eat at local joints and shop at the local stores. I will admit it was a bit of an adjustment but by the end of our trip, I was feeling settled and thinking I could really live like this year round. It forces you to take your mind to a different place and focus on the beauty of the island, to take life slow and remember that if you grab your Blackberry or iphone you immediately blow your cover and plaster a big label on your forehead as a tourist.
Here is a bit of what we experienced this year:
pool time
beach time at Charlie Young
lots of beaches in Kihei
the local swap meet (their version of a Farmers Market)
Ma'alea Harbor
many, many games of Uno--for the record, I won 3-1
Ron and I at Whalers Village
friends of ours, Grant and Jennifer at Whalers Village |
I will be back next week with regular posts and lots of fun things to share. Until next time Maui...Aloha and Mahalo!
