the beginning

Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to be famous in some way. First I wanted to be a CEO of a large company and just 'boss' everyone around. My parents were like seriously kid, they don't have a CEO degree and they don't just hire you out of the gates to run a company. This completely baffled me and I was surely going to show them up. Then the show Private Practice came on and I was all about being a lawyer and fighting for people's rights. Of course since all the 'bad' people went to prison for life, I wanted to defend them and makes things right. Most of all I wanted to defend death penalty cases, save a life of one who may have been wronged by the system and be famous for all the case law I created. Uh huh.

Fast forward 15 years and you will see that things didn't go quite as planned. I am currently working in the legal arena as a paralegal, not a lawyer. Yup, the bitch to the lawyer. I am not creating case law and I am not defending death penalty cases. Rather, I am doing all the dirty work to defend the 'bad' people, like sex offenders, drunk drivers, thief's and the like. It keeps things entertaining and the stories I hear are like fairytales from a book of a very imaginative author.

I am OK with how life has turned out. I am not a lawyer and I am not bitter. It is difficult to make money as a lawyer and you get the opportunity to work long, sometimes painfully challenging days but I thrive on the entrepreneurial aspect of running a firm--being the HEAD guy calling all the shots. I have succumbed to running the behind the scenes aspect of the practice and now get to 'boss' my boss around. I just tell him I am practicing for my next job as CEO of a large, well-respected company...hopefully my own.

practicing for my head shot!
